I struggle a lot myself with staying motivated consistently. I love my job but sometimes find myself in a rut where I am not as productive as I want to be. One thing I found as a huge motivator to me is from my WIN file. A WIN file is simply a place that you can keep things that will inspire you and motivate you. I keep this file in my desk at my office. When I am down, or feel like nothing I am doing is working, I take a look at the WIN file. It is full of things that will pick me up and keep me moving forward. Here are some things that I keep in my WIN file:
1: Notes and cards from people that are important to me. This serves as a reminder to me that people care about me and they think I am doing a great job.
2: Pictures of successful events that I have led. This allows me to reminisce on God’s awesome faithfulness. I am able to say to myself “look at the awesome thing God did through me here” It reminds me that God is on my side and He wants me to succeed.
3: Notes I have written myself. During the great times I have, I always make it a point to write myself a note and stick it in the WIN file. When I am in a valley, I can go back to that and read my own words telling me to stick with it and never give up.
4: Pictures of my family. Sometimes when we get down and out it can be a very selfish place to be. Pictures of my family reminds me that it’s not all about me. There are people out there that rely on me.
5: My personal journal. If you don’t keep a personal journal, you should. It is a GREAT place that you can write out your prayers, dreams , and promises God has given you. I have been journaling for almost 5 years now. As I look through the pages it reminds me of times I was frustrated and God brought me through it. It reminds me of how I was feeling when a certain person in our church passed away or got married. There are entries from when some of my children were born. My heart is in those pages. It is a great thing for me to go back and read through my history from my own eyes. It will be a great heirloom for my kids when I am gone. Keep a journal in your WIN file!
These are just a few things you can keep in a WIN file. What goes in there can be different for everyone. The point is that there will be times when you are down and out and need a little motivation. You can’t always rely on other people to give you that when you need it. The WIN file will help you get back on track when you are down.
